Did you know? Cheese is high in saturated fat and salt. It is also calorie-dense, with about 100 calories per ounce. This means eating too much could lead to high cholesterol and high blood pressure, increasing your risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). For some, cheese, can cause digestive issues for people who are lactose intolerant, such as bloating, gas, or diarrhea. Also, research suggests that casein - a protein that is highly concentrated in cheese - releases opiates called casomorphins as it digests. These opiates can signal comfort to the brain indirectly via hormones. Know also that some cheese is made using rennet, an enzyme that comes from the stomach linings of slaughtered calves. Here is a list made from rennet: Brie, Cheddar, Parmigiano-Reggiano, Colston Bassett Stilton, Cravero Parmigiano Reggiano, and Marcel Petite Comte'.
